Jerico sat down at one of the benches and laid her head
down in her hands. Her ipod was blarring loud obnoxious music
into her ear. Her brother had borrowed it a few days ago to
use at work and uploaded a bunch of songs where they would
scream so loud you could not understand a single word that
they were saying. It was quite annoying really however she
felt like it was just the music that she had needed for the day.
Something that was loud and angry, something that screamed
at the top of its lungs and did not care who the hell was
listening to it. That is how she felt she should be acting, but it
was nice to let the music do it for her. She did not know if
she had the energy to scream, or the energy to be as angry
as she was earlier really. Things had been so hectic at home,
plus with school it was like things were just going down hill. It
was hard to do your homework and to focus on the important
things when your family was constantly fighting. Her older
sister had just told them that she was pregnant, to some guy
she had only known for a few months. Her parents were
furious. More so with the fact that it was only a matter of time
before the rest of the town found out if they did not already
know, and that was going to make them not only the poor
family down the road but the poor family with slutty children.
Which was not true. They were decent people, though even
with people knowing that they still looked at them like they
were a disease.
Jerico lifted her head and looked out over the park. It was
around ten in the evening, so it was pretty dead. She had
snuck out to come here. She needed to get away from the
cold looks that were being shot back between her sister and
her parents. It used to be that they were the family who
stuck by each other no matter what but this situation was
starting to show otherwise. She had even heard her parents
talking about kicking her out. Making her learn that the life she
was living was unacceptable and that they were not going to
be there to pick up the pieces and constantly clean up her
messes. Jerico did not want this to happen but she knew that
there was not a whole lot that she could do about it. She was
not mad at her sister, she agreed that what she did was
stupid and irresponsible but it was not in her place to be angry
at her. Her brother was angry at her, but that was because
he was already a screw up in his families eyes and he gets the
blame most of the time when the rest of the family messes
up. Like her started a trend or something. Jerico defended
him the most that she could but there was only so much that
she could say. Her parents were the type of people who make
up there mind and stay set in there ways. She learned this
young and learned that sometimes it is better to give up while
you are ahead. Plus he told her it was not worth it and she
was not going to stand up for someone who did not want
someone to stand up for them.
Flipping through the songs on her ipod she stopped on a song
that she had not heard in a million years it seemed like. It was
Traffic in the sky by Jack Johnson. Who just so happened to
be one of her all time favorite artists. Though most people
found him political, she found him willing enough to sing about
the truth and in a manor that really made you think about it.
He did not just say how it was, he put emotion and heart
behind every word. That was what good music was all about.
It was about drawing in those people who believe in your
cause and keeping them held to you. Not pulling slightly then
letting them go. That was harsh music, violent music, like the
song she was listening to earlier. It was appealing at first then
they started screaming and completely lost her interest. Jack
Johnson kept his tone level and his words were said in a way
that made you feel them not only hear them.
She thought about all the good times her family has had in the
past. How was it that none of that was strong enough to
make them look at this and go you know what we can get
through this. What made her parents choose now to be angry
and disappointed. Whatever the reason it was to the full
extent. They were talking about kicking her out. They had
not kicked Logan out, even though they should have. He may
not have got pregnant or someone else pregnant but he
dropped out of school. Though her father dropped out of
high school because Jillian was born. So maybe they were just
scared it was going to happen to her. That her life was going
to end up like theres which was not bad. Sure they were not
the richest family in the world but they were a family and they
were happy. At least up until a couple of days ago she
thought they were.
